who?

I'm never sure whether to do an autobiography or a CV with this part of a website.

To cover the basics, I'm a 21 year old bloke living in a relatively small but nevertheless lovable city called Bristol in the southwest of England. This is where, aeons ago, I elected to spend four years doing exams and chasing a bit of paper. I'm now in the fourth and final year of a Masters degree in Computer Science here at Bristol University. Come June, I'll be unemployed but I'll have a qualification. It's now June 2005 and I'm unemployed but I have a qualification (hurrah!).

I've been programming for over a decade, starting with BBC Basic, experimenting with QuakeC and then slowly getting a solid grounding in C/C++ thereafter. I started off modifying games, and all my programming work still tends to revolve around games in one way or another. I've collected most of the better and more interesting things I've managed to achieve in the portfolio section of this very website. This is the skill I came to university to develop, and it's the one from which I'm planning to make a career.

Beyond that, I like making things. I play with music synths a lot, I've filled out a couple of notebooks with sketches, and I occasionally make a total abject mess of writing short science fiction stories. A few university courses on CGI and animation have left me with a genuine interest in 3D animation, as well, though I can't seem to find time to develop and pursue it. I like videogames of pretty much every variety, provided they're fun; I may like Deus Ex, Rez and Gran Turismo, but I've also got an abiding love for Harvest Moon. As for passive entertainment, I like movies, books and anime that are either funny or have something interesting to say, and I usually listen to upbeat 90s rock and techno. I play bass guitar, in theory, though I hardly touch it these days - I spend a lot more time in Fruity Loops trying to make drums that sound good.

So... this is me, and this is my website. There are things on it that I made, and you can actually play with some of them. If you like something you see, hate something you see or want to pay me to do cool things, drop me a line at this spambot protected address. Thank you!
